Community YouthMapping Training for Trainers

The Center for Youth Development and Policy Research (the Center) is committed to developing the capacity to sustain and build on current efforts in Community YouthMapping, at the local level. The Center has provided direct training and technical assistance in Community YouthMapping for over 22 cities nationwide. Through lessons learned and experiences shared, the Center has developed a training for trainers. The training for trainers is designed to prepare local coordinators as trainers and field supervisors of the young people participating in Community YouthMapping efforts. The training takes the coordinator through:

  • The introduction and history of the Community YouthMapping project

  • Community organizing and preparation needed to support the effort

  • Protocols for the local coordinating entity

  • Partners who have been involved in other cities

  • The day to day management of the project

  • Facilitating the training for YouthMappers

  • Maintaining the integrity of the information collected

  • Recommendations for disseminating the information

The training for trainers is a two day training that can be done for up to 30 people maximum. To ensure maximum benefit, the Center recommends that a community coordinate and manage a Community YouthMapping effort before being trained as trainers.
